Wild Learning in Kindergarten

-Our new heart word for the week is can.

-We read a book this week called, Hands Can.  With this book, we explored the various things that hands can do.  We also hunted through the book for our heart word can.

-During our writing time, we started to learn how to stretch out words.  To stretch out words, we say them really slowly and listen for the sounds we hear.  If we know the letter that makes that sound, we write it down.  We learned that the words don't have to be spelled perfectly.  We just try our best to listen for the different sounds.  To practice stretching out words, we filled in the blank of the sentence: I can ____.  I was really impressed with how hard everyone worked!

-In math, we were introduced to geoboards and geobands.  These are little peg boards that you can stretch rubber bands on to make shapes and designs.  Also, we were introduced to the bugs this week.  We have been exploring them by sorting them, counting them, etc.  We also continued to practice sorting shapes this week.

-Our theme for the week was scarecrows.  We read some books about scarecrows, read some poems, water colored a picture, and made a shape scarecrow.  We also had the opportunity to make a real scarecrow!

Special Thanks!!
-Thank you to Mr. Mischke for cutting out our giraffes!
-Thank you to Mrs. Spear and Mrs. Evan for helping put our scarecrow together and for helping our class decorate our scarecrow!

Needed for Oct. 1st.
-Next week is going to be our apple week.  I would like to do a taste testing of 3 different kinds of apples.  Here is what we need:

*7 red apples cut into 1/4's
*7 yellow apples cut into 1/4's
*7 green apples cut into 1/4's (hopefully sour ones like granny smith)

-Feel free to post on here or send me a note if you can send in one type of apples cut up.  Thank you!!!
